The Bendable Bicycle That Can Lock Itself

by OddMods Staff on July 15, 2010

Kevin Scott, an industrial design student at De Montfort University, is the runner-up in the Designer of the Year at his university. All of this recognition spawns from his collapsible bike. In small apartments, finding a spot to put your big bulky bike when there are no racks available outside can be a pain. Scott designed a eye catching bike that folds in half, and can even lock itself.

The winner of the contest earns a £500 prize that should “encourage the further development of this unique and striking idea.”

Kevin had this to say.

“This has validated how I feel about the product. It’s a justification of the uniqueness of the design and the possibilities for taking it further. I intend to use the prize money to outsource production of some of the key components to allow for full testing.”

“I am now going to take this forward to produce a fully resolved solution and hopefully this will be a stepping stone into a career in the bike designing industry.”
