The Slauerhoffbrug – A Flying Drawbridge

by OddMods Staff on August 25, 2010

In Leeuwarden, located in the Netherlands, you’ll find a bridge that’s far from ordinary – Slauerhoffbrug. This unique tail bridge uses one pylon, rather than ordinary hinges, to lift the road right off the surface.

The Slauerhoffbrug uses it’s two arms to life the 15m x 15m deck. Tail bridges are used to efficiently raise and lower a bridge without causing major traffic. Derrived from the Leeuwarden flag, the bridge is painted in yellow and blue.
